Education: 1976/1980: Electrical Engineering at Faculdade de Engenharia de Campinas (now Faculdade de Engenharia Elétrica e de Computação) – UNICAMP. 1980: Industrial training at Robert Bosch do Brasil S.A. 1981/1983: M.Sc. student in the field of Digital Communications at Faculdade de Engenharia de Campinas (now Faculdade de Engenharia Elétrica e de Computação) – UNICAMP. 1988/1992: Ph.D. student in the field of Digital Communications at Department of Electrical Engineering, The University of Manchester, Manchester, UK.

 

Professional Qualifications: Founding Member of Sociedade Brasileira de Telecomunicações (Brazilian Telecommunications Society), 1983 – present; elevated to Senior Member of SBrT in 2012; Member of IEEE Communications Society 1989 - 2002; Member of IEEE Information Theory Society 1989 - 2002. Member of IET 2005-2006.

From 1988 to 1992, on leave for Ph.D. Member elected for the Senate of the Faculty representing the Lecturer Level from 1986 to 1988. 1992/1998: Assistant Doctor, Faculdade de Engenharia Elétrica - FEE (former FEC) – UNICAMP, lectures on digital electronics, analog and digital communications, logic circuits for the undergraduation, and in charge of the undergraduate teaching laboratories in communications and transmission lines and filters, lectures on digital communications, cryptography, coding theory, coded modulation, local area networks, wireless communications, Multiple Access Systems (TDMA and CDMA), probability and random processes and satellite communications for the post-graduation. M.Sc. and Ph.D. supervision. Member elected for the Senate of the Faculty representing the Assistant Doctor level from 1994 to 1997. 1998/1999: Head of the Department of Communications at Faculdade de Engenharia Elétrica e de Computação – FEEC (former FEE). Member of the Senate of the Faculty representing the Department of Communications - DECOM. 1998/2000: Assistant Professor, Faculdade de Engenharia Elétrica e de Computação - FEEC, same functions as above. 2000 to 2009: Associate Professor, FEEC, same functions as listed above plus Coordinator of the Specialization Course in Telecommunications for engineers. 2009 to present: Full Professor, FEEC, same functions as listed above. 2005 to 2009: Coordinator of the Engineering Library (BAE), Coordinator of the Extension at FEEC, Member of the Senate of the Faculty and Member of the Extension Council (CONEX) at UNICAMP. 2007 to 2010: Member of the Valuation and Development Institutional Commission (CADI) at UNICAMP.

 

Research Interests: Mainly in the field of Digital Communications with specific emphasis on: Error Correction Codes, Information Theory, Non-Binary Turbo Codes, Non-binary LDPC Codes, ARQ Techniques, Multiple Access Techniques (TDMA, CDMA, OFDMA), Satellite Communications, Synchronization, Wireless Communications, Data Transmission, Cooperative Communications, Coded Cooperation.

 

Supervision: at present (2014), supervision of 7 research students (4 Ph.D. and 3 M.Sc.). 2 Post-doctorate, 7 Ph.D. and 18 M.Sc. students supervised in the past.
